System OFF and Fan Turned ON

When the system is turned OFF and the Fan is turned ON (the user is only using the fan for ventilation). The Device will redirect the fan signal from the thermostat to the HVAC system. It will not interfere with its Function. Only if the reset button is pressed, then the fan may turn OFF and turn back ON in a very brief moment.

Fan extensions in Conventional (Normal) cool mode, Heat-Pump cool mode, and Heat-Pump heat mode

When the fan is set to AUTOMATIC at the thermostat:

  • For the following cases when at least 3 minutes have passed since the compressor has turned ON (for Normal and Heat-Pump systems):
    – If the temperature in the room has reached the set temperature of the thermostat in cooling mode (for Normal and Heat-Pump systems)
    – If the temperature in the room has reached the set temperature of the thermostat in heat mode (for Heat-Pump systems)
    – If the current cool or heat mode has been switched to OFF mode
The compressor will turn OFF and the fan will remain ON (or will turn OFF and back ON in a second). It will continue running approximately 3 minutes or less (Depending on the temperature sensed in the room by the device)
  • At the start of the fan extension, and if the current mode is still selected:
    – Assuming the room temperature is higher than the set thermostat temperature and cool mode is still selected (regardless of the fan status)
    – Assuming the room temperature is lower than the set thermostat temperature and heat mode is still selected (regardless of the fan status)
The thermostat sends a signal to turn OFF the compressor and a short cycle protection delay happens. Both the compressor and the fan will be ON afterwards.
  • At the start of the fan extension, and if the mode is selected after switching from another mode that uses the compressor (regardless of the fan status):
The thermostat sends a signal to turn OFF the compressor and a short cycle protection delay may happen. Both the compressor and the fan will be ON afterwards.

When the fan is set to ON at the thermostat: Procedures from number 2 and 3 will follow, with the exception that the fan is not affected and remains turned ON.

Fan extensions in Conventional (Normal) heat mode

When the power is restored to a unit, a reset is caused (from pressing the reset button), a watchdog resets the unit, or heat mode is selected from another mode, there will be no delay to turn the heater ON. Recall that in gas heating sources, the device will not take control of the system. Only the fan will be running after the heater is turned OFF, if determined by the device.
When the fan is set to AUTOMATIC at the thermostat:

  • After the temperature in the room has reached the set temperature at the thermostat the heater is turned OFF, or heat mode has been turned OFF:
    – if the heater has been ON for less than four to five minutes the algorithm in the device will not apply a fan extension.
    – if the heater has been ON for at least four to five minutes the algorithm in the device will call a fan extension. The fan will run for 20 seconds and up to 5 minutes or less (Depending on the temperature sensed in the room by the device)
    – If the fan is set to ON within the 20 seconds and the 5 minutes extension have not passed, while the fan is changed to AUTO again. The fan extension still occurs.
    – If after 20 seconds the fan is set to ON and then AUTO before the possible 5 minutes extension. The fan extension still occurs.
    – If the heating mode is selected and turned ON again before the 5 minutes passed, the algorithm resets.
    – If temperature has reached 65 degree Fahrenheit or is lower from a referenced temperature value (retained sample at the beginning second of the 20 seconds) after heater has turned OFF, the fan will turn OFF to prevent cool air flow.
  • When temperature is sensed too low and the heating mode is called to turn the heater ON again.
    – if heating mode is set in thermostat or the heater is reselected in the thermostat (switching from cooling mode or setting thermostat to OFF) the algorithm restarts.

When the fan is set to ON at the thermostat: all of the above apply, with the exception that the fan is not affected and remains turned ON.
